Sensationally Becoming the European Master

Markus Wieser, Sergei Pugachev and Matti Paschen won with an unbelievable advantage of 33 points in the Dragon European Championship at the Austrian Lake Atter!

In the beginning, bad weather and wind changes provided difficult sailing conditions. Huge bursts of wind would sweep down onto the big starting field and jumble together the 68 boats. It was not until the last sailing day when the "Rosenwind" (the well-known, pleasanter weather) came to life providing the possibility for two more races, including even a cancelation result. Wieser and Co., who before the last two races were in second place, beat the concurrence with two more wins and reinforced once again their supremacy in the Dragon Class. Markus Wieser's haul in the Dragon Class at international top events since 2005 is rather impressive, including two Gold Cup wins, four won European Championships as well as two Vice-World and a Vice European Champion title.

"We are a very good team and apparently we do quite well under pressure, making less mistakes like the rest of the teams. Our good results from the last few years definitely helped us. Routine and poise works itself out when it's all or nothing. Sergei and Matti are fighters and we want nothing more than to win. We fight until the end and when it comes to the wire, it's actually great fun for us," said Markus Wieser.

The Dragon Season is over this season. It starts up again in December, going again with the preparations for the World Championship 2012 in Weymouth, England.

Matti Paschen, "We still have a bill to pay, owing to the unbelievably close loss at the World Championship last year in Australia."

Markus Wieser on the AEZ RC44

Markus Wieser has international success also as the tactician for the Austrian Team AEZ RC44, who concluded the fourth from out of six races successfully with a sensational third place in the Fleet Race Competition at Lake Traun in the beginning of June. AEZ is the main sponsor with an Austrian RC44 syndicate in the world elite of sailing sports, led by Rene Mangold and Markus Wieser. This team is making the international troupe led by Russell Couts, founder of the class and "America's Cup" professional, nervous. The next race will take place July 18-22 in Mastrand, Sweden, where the AEZ RC44 again will compete with the best.
