| The Tommies in the Medal Race of the Kieler Week 20 June 2012 Flying High The last World Cup before the Olympic Games is history and the Tommies end the Kieler Week excellently in 4th Place. The Kieler Week has been for over 130 years one of the biggest sporting events in the world. It always takes place in the last full week of June with up to 6,000 sailors from over 50 nations. Around 2000 boats go to the Regatta tracks of the inlets and outlets of the start. Coming directly from England, Zajac / Czajka settled in perfectly with a win in the first race in the Kieler Week. Because the Olympic Games start soon, not all the Top Teams are represented. Nevertheless, a few good teams were there to challenge the Tommies. Except for one day, the wind was extremely strong - sometimes so strong that sailing was impossible. In those conditions Zajac/Czajka had made a great leap to the front and could take part in the fight for the first time. Continuous good success put the Tommies in a excellent starting position for the Medal Race. They went into the last race in 3rd Place with the chance and the risk to land between 1st and 6th Place. |

| „In the crucial Medal Race we started off poorly and based on the shortness of the races didn't come well into the front," said Thomas Zajac. Zajac and Czajk missed the pedestal with a mere 2 points. "It would have been nice to stand at the podium in Kiel, but 4th Place is our best World Cup success in the 49ers." said Thomas Czajka. The team first began to compete in this boat class in 2010. Their best ranking in Kiel goes back five years, where they sailed to the podium in Tornado. Meanwhile the Tommies are on the way to Poland for an invitation-only regatta. The Olympic Cup starts tomorrow, June 22, in Olsztyn. A very exclusive thirteen participants from seven nations are at the start. Only after that will Zajac/Czajka return to Austria, and after three regattas and virtually a month on the water they will treat themselves to a break.
