| AEZ Team shows off: IT´S SHOWTIME The AEZ Team were beat only by Peninsula Petroleum at the City of Gmunden Grand Prix. The RC44 Austria Cup, the third station in the Championship Tour 2012, was open today with the City of Gmunden Grand Prix - a long route from Gmunden to Altmünster and back again. The British syndicate Peninsula Petroleum finished on top with a freshening-up west wind and two boat lengths lead over the AEZ RC44 Sailing Team. Third place went to Katusha (RUS) with the four time AC Champion Brad Butterworth at the rudder. Sailing under the Austrian flag, French AC Champion Yann Gouinot has proven to be a great transfer to the AEZ Team, who has been training recently under the instruction of Don Cowie. The New Zealander (Cowie) was an Olympic Silver Medalist in 1992 in the Starboat and is exceedingly rich in AC experience. Cowie's tips and intensive preparations should further help Mangold, Binder and Co. to higher performance levels. The first step in the right direction was taken with today's performance. The RC44 Austria Cup, embedded in the 2nd Harbour Fest Traunsee and garnished with entertaining treats, will be continued tomorrow with the Match Race Competition. Starting on Thursday follows a Fleet Race Series, which will last until June 3. In the Championship Ranking Aqua (GBR) leads the Fleet Race Series. With the Direct Duels Synergy (RUS) has its nose in the lead. The AEZ Team has a place in midfield in both disciplines: in the Match Race Ranking Mangold and Co. are in 6th Place at the moment, and in the Fleet Race Competition they are in Rank 7. |

| Voices: Christian Binder: "The training with Don was fantastic. He pushed us to the extreme and brought to light new strengths. With Yann we have another very experienced sailor in the cockpit, he had won the cup in 2007 with Alinghi and is of course a very great strength. All in all we are very confident, as today's success shows, that we are up to par with the competition." City of Gmunden Grand Prix, Results: 1. Pensinula Petroleum (GBR) 2. AEZ RC44 Sailing Team (AUT) 3. Katusha (RUS) Link: www.rc44.at, www.rc44.com |
