Cascais RC44 Cup 2012:
IN THE TOP TEN AGAIN

The AEZ RC44 Sailing Team took care in the second race of the RC44 Championship Tour for a pleasing success.

The wind does not build up anymore at Cascais, but instead it rained on the last day of the RC44 Cups in Portugal. The AEZ RC44 Sailing Team around helmsman Rene Mangold, tactician Christian Binder and strategist Markus Wieser (GER) did not start verz well, and with only seven knots of wind they had to content themselves with 10th Place. An excuse will be noted: Rene Mangold had had a short night, spending the night with diarrhea and chills.

In the last race of the Cascais RC44 Cup, it ran distinctively better and the team landed in 7th Place. With that the AEZ crew has proven themselves by ending in 9th Place in the overall rankings of the Fleet Race, as well as with a 5th Place in the beginning at Lanzarote, keeping a Top Ten result in both. The Russian Katusha picked up the victory, most likely because they had engaged the world's best sailor, Russell Coutts.

For the AEZ RC44 Sailing Team now stands the season highlight before them: The RC44 Austria Cup at Traunsee. At the third station of the RC44 Championship Tour 2012 at Gmunden, the best sailor in the world will be there at the start again. Austria's spectacular sailing event will take place from May 30 - June 3. The AEZ Team will use their home field advantage and will shortly before the regatta absolve more training units. New Zealander Don Cowie, who has an excellent reputation, will function as training partner.
Voices:

Rene Mangold (Helmsman):
"We squandered a better ranking not today, but rather on the first few days of the Feet Race Series. Other than that, the performances were good, and we're where we belong, namely in middle field. Now we are all quite exhausted. This Regatta had it all: strong winds, light winds, rain, sun - it uses up everything you have."

Christian Binder (Trim & Lead Tactician):
"Our main goal lay with a place between 5th and 10th, which we achieved. But everyone has to improve a little, if we want to get further to the front. Now we're excited about the home game at Traunsee. We'll be there with a new spinnaker and a new Genuan sail that should be able to better handle light winds."
