Strong Finish RC44 Sweden Cup, Marstrand, 17.-21. August 2011 The fourth round of the RC44 Championship Tour, sailed in front of Marstrand and entitled the RC44 Sweden Cup, was finalized today with three additional races. At first, the home team AEZ sailed at places 9 and 10, and then managed at the last leg of the race to bring home second although a halyard was torn. With that, Rene Mangold and Co. finished the Regatta in 11th Place. The series was decided through nine very grueling races, where for the first time sixteen RC44 teams competed and the Austrians were able to celebrate their first day of victory on the tour. A top-ten ranking was missed only by three points. Aqua, the British team with helmsman Cameran Appeton (NZL), won the overall victory which enabled them to further expand their overall lead of the tour. This time, Russell Coutts (Oracle Racing) had to be satisfied with 6th Place. The Championship Tour will be continued on September 28 in Rovinj (CRO) with the Adris RC44 Cup. Christian Binder (Tactician): “Beforehand, we changed a lot and worked intensively on the trim in preparation for this tournament so that we would be better sailors in light and moderate wind. The boat speed was on point the whole week, and with that the crew itself is rewarded. Today’s finish was definitely satisfying. After a super start, we clearly dominated the last race and we had the whole field in control. Then the Fockfall was torn and we had to improvise. Second place was important for morale, and we confidently and excitedly look forward to continuing in Croatia. RC44 Sweden Cup, Endstand nach 9 Wettfahrten: Final Standings after Race 9: 1.
