STRONG CONTRIBUTION The local AEZ crew wins its first podium finish off Cagliari. The strong Mistral that has really held up the RC44 field during the previous days of racing in Sardinia abated significantly for the current round. Finally, the strong north wind lost its power and, of the four races planned, three have been completed. Due to the high quality of the participants, finishes were once again extremely tight. Usually the 15 yachts crossed the finish line within one minute of each other. The AEZ RC44 Sailing team came third, eleventh and ninth. After seven races Binder and Co. are in eleventh position. Compared to yesterday, the Austrians were aggressive and could cope with the high speeds over long distances. The field is still led by Team Aqua. Oracle Racing lost ground, however, and have to be content with fifth place. The Cagliari Cup, the third stop in the RC44 Championship Tour 2011 will finish tomorrow. Christian Binder (Tactician): “In the first round, right from the start we were in the leading group and came in a safe third. Unfortunately then the timing did not work at the start as we had hoped, we tried everything, but did not really get through the field. In the last round we started out very well until we got stuck in a wind hole just before the finish line. That cost us four or five places. I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, but from a sailing point of view it was a convincing performance." Standings after 7 Races: 1. Team Aqua GBR 20 2. Team Islas Canarias ESP 23 3. Team Artemis SWE 31 11. AEZ RC44 Sailing Team 69 (DNS/16, 8,11,11,3,11,9) www.rc44.at |
