Tommis at EM in Helsinki (FIN)

Arena sailing in the Fjord
The 49er European championship is being staged in Finland, directly in front of the banks of Helsinki, from the 8th – 13th of July. Everybody will want to show their strengths once again at the last big event before the Olympic qualifiers in December in Australia. Unfortunately none of the teams could really benefit from the preparatory phase in the far north as the wind was long in coming.

In the shallow waters of the Finnish fjords there are numerous shoals and lots of little islands. The winches were mostly turning and thus, as is often the case, a consistent performance is the key to success if you want to be right out in front. Zajac/Czajka have been there since the 1st of July, in order to prepare and join in the EM. “This time nothing should go wrong. We have replaced the entire boat, everything is brand new “, the Tommis say about their Hermione.

As from tomorrow, Friday, you can follow the team of Zajac/Czajka through a live blog and live Tracking. The latest information about the races and the actual situation (blog) in Helsinki can be found here.

The first Practice Race started today at 16:55. Then it will be the real thing tomorrow at 10am our time. In the program there are three Races a day in the Qualifying Series from Friday to Sunday. Starting from Monday, the 11th of July at 10 o'clock the sails are then readied for the Final Races. The Medal Race takes place at 1pm on Wednesday the 13th of July.
