RC44 Cagliari Cup, Sardinien (29. Juni - 3. Juli 2011) The home AEZ contingent aims to bring more consistency in its game before Sardinia. The RC44 class continues to enjoy immense popularity: Before Cagliari, which is the third venue of this year's Championships-Tour, two further newcomers stepped into the ring with a Polish and a Russian boat respectively. In this way, the fleet has increased up to 15 syndicates and ten nations. After the regattas of San Diego and Gmunden, Team Oracle has lead the field. Team Aqua (GBR) and Katusha (RUS) lie behind the Americans, who will be channelled around the course by the four time champions Russell Coutts. For the home AEZ RC44 sailing team, an improvement inside the cockpit remains to be the top priority after the team was reformed (three new sailors were taken over at the start of the season). If teamwork turns out to be a success, one would want to achieve at least a mid-chart position in the professional circuit, where AC-syndicate Oracle Racing, Artemis (SWE) and Aleph Racing (FRA) are also set to sail. Christian Binder (tactician): ‘‘We have found a strong squad after a long exploratory phase. However, we are still trying to choose our starting line-up. We want everything to go better for us in Cagliara than before Gmunden. If it turns out to be so, then we may well hit one or the other target and achieve our goal.’’ The RC44 Cagliari Cup will begin on coming Monday with the Match Race round. After the direct duels that will be directly staged as a show event, the Regatta will be decided in a strong Fleet Race comprising up to twelve individual races. The winner will be honoured on 3th July. Rene Mangold (helmsman): „Our problem is consistency. Every now and then, we tend to make our life unnecessarily difficult despite showing our all our potential. We will use the short training period and the Match Race Day to catch a foothold. If we get into top gear at the right time, a mid-chart position may well be possible.“ RC44 Championship Tour 2011, Intermediate standings: 1. Team Oracle Racing USA 3 2. Team Aqua GBR 5 3.
