David against Goliath at the Traunsee

RC44 Austria Cup (11. - 15.5.) | Allianz Traunsee Woche (28.5. – 4.6.)

After San Diego the second duel of the RC44 sailors is not on the ocean anymore. Gmunden and the Traunsee are the happening. The fourth run of the RC44 Austria Cup – equipped top class and a maritime of extra class. Among Oracle Racing the Traunsee sailing has all the names and ranks there. 

Thirteen teams are mentioned for the second tour stop of the RC44 Championship Tour 2011, among them almost exclusively AC pros, Olympic winners and World Champions. At the show down, from 11th May to 15th May, the local AEZ RC44 Sailing Team is the only amateur team and outsider, but still there with much confidence.

In the course of the press conference the touristic advertising value of the event – also this year 10.000 overnight stays are expected – as well as the athletic greatness of the RC44 Austria Cup. Michael Ebner, Head of Communication BMW Austria: “Sailing is the most effective way to get ahead. This matches the brand. Because BMW is also trying to make its cars more effective.” Allianz was able to extend this partnership last autumn. The total AEZ communication campaign is focused on sailing: “Not only do we support the AEZ44 Team, but also the newcomers, such as the 49er sailors Thomas Zajac and Thomas Czajka, as well as Youth Olympia winner Lara Vadlau.”

Among the determinations in the match and fleet race the Grand Prix before Gmunden will include a long distance. The local team with mates Christian Binder and Rene Mangold want to join in at the start of the season before San Diego and are not afraid of the big names. “We have made it in our debut season and want to continue this development in our local event”, explains Binder, and adds, “so that our new team can meet the expectations with passion and great dedication.” The RC44 Austria Cup begins on 11th May with the match race determinations, the Grand Prix before Gmunden is planned for 12th May, after the the fleet race follow.
