Rendezvous with the King An Austrian team at third place may shake hands with King Juan Carlos. Today’s medal race called for patience. The 11 o’clock scheduled final race was postponed due to weak winds. The typical sea breeze, a thermal wind, made one hope for more. Finally it was possible to set sail. The conditions with many wind turns made it hard for the top ten. The reward: Delle Karth/Resch, a 49er team from Austria, for the first time was allowed to shake hands with the Royal Family in Palma. The beginning was good, then came the turn. Even though the Tommis felt good at the beginning and had a good run, they still couldn’t keep up with the material damage and stay on top. Not everything went according to plan in the qualification race. In the last races the team gained their power again and were able to get back to the start. In spite of the last successful day with a 2nd and 3rd place it was only good enough for 36th position. Now the Tommis are on their way to Austria, where they will fill up with energy. After that they journey to Cote d’Azur for the next tour station of the World Cup. The World Cup-Tross is moving further on to South Africa, before Hyeres from 24. to 29. April where the World Cup points will be sailed again. Spanish World Cup, Final Score: 49er (15 Wettfahrten + Medal Race) 1. Dyen Emanuel/Christidis Stephane FRA 81 3.
