Princess Sofia Trophy, World Cup, Palma de Mallorca

A windy start

The Olympic sailors are fighting against winds and competitors before Palma.

Perfect weather and perfect conditions, only the extreme winds and gusts are cumbersome. These are the sea conditions of the first day of the World Cup’s race before Palma de Mallorca. Some classes were sent back to the harbor by winds up to 36 knots. If it continues on like this then the class winners will have definitely earned their praise from King Juan Carlos on Saturday the 9. April.

The 49er field began very late on the first race day. They had to wait until the winds slackened which occurred early evening. Thomas Zajac and Thomas Czajka finished their first round perfectly and got eleventh place. In the second race they had to cancel the sails earlier due to a tear.

The Corinthian Lara Vadlau and Eva Maria Schimak from Burgenland are for the first time in the Women’s World Cup. Due to a technical defect the first race was hindered.

The World Cup before Palma will be continued tomorrow.
