The AEZ RC44 Sailing Team rewards itself with a place on the platform oft he Oracle Cup and finalizes the season’s start before San Diego on ninth place.
Austria’s RC44 Aces, with tactician Peter Evans in place of Christian Binder in this season look back at a motivated and successful performance. At the begin of the series the starting area was crowed due to little space and due to two material damages they were thrown off a bit. The AEZ Aces fight an exciting duel in the fleet race series with the AC grandees and sail to the aimed goal on the third day of the race. The Russian Katusha syndicate wins the first victory, Team Oracle Racing (Russell Coutts) is second place.
Peter Evans, who won America’s Cup with Alinghi (2007) and Team New Zealand (2000), was content and full of praise. “The boys are quick to learn, critical of themselves and extremely ambitious. We had to put up with a lot in the last days, but never lost hope for our possibilities. Today’s third place was not a coincidence and shows what the troop is capable of.”
The first season’s duel, that was right in front of the Broadway Pier and watched by many viewers. The next race is before Gmunden, from 10.-15. May. After the successful start of the season the excitement of the home even is great, once again a new developed main sail is going to be used. “Last year we failed because of our high hopes”, remembers trainer Alfred Pelkinka, who is convinced that the team will be better this year. “We have gained consistency, know what is possible and will profit from our collaboration with Peter on the long run.”
