RC44 Valencia Cup, 27. July – 01. August 2010

A LITTLE LESS WOULD BE MORE

The AEZ RC44 Sailing Team has to take a defeat in the direct duels before Valencia and is hoping for support from above.

The conditions were very similar to yesterday. The local eight remain without points on the second day of the match race determinations. The difference between the first five duels was that the Austrians could keep their today’s encounters open, but due to individual mistakes, slight loss of speed and a material damage the AEZ – troop couldn’t sail a victory.

„We are not that experienced in this constellation yet and as a team 30 kilograms too light. Wind speeds of five with waves to match are avenging the team. When there is also a material damage on top of that, you’re way out of the league and lose your post”, says trainer Alfred Pelinka who is hoping for support from above in the upcoming days. “If the wind loses a few knots, then the whole situation would look different, above all we would have it much easier in the fleet races.” Tomorrow’s practice day will be used wisely. “We are behind compared to the others who earn their money by sailing and sit in a boat daily. Therefore we will take the opportunity to use tomorrow wisely.”

The duel boat against boat goes to Team Aqua(UAE) lead by the New Zealander Cameron Appleton, Russell Coutts from BMW Oracle Racing has to share points with the Swedish Artemis Team on third place. Tomorrow the eleven syndicates are changing over to the fleet race, the first of altogether ten races will start Friday at 1p.m.
