The Next Blow

The AEZ RC44 Team Austria puts the next giants in their place at the end of the Match Race.

The victory over the superstar Ray Davies (NZL) who is leading Team Ceeref was neither the only one nor only luck. The team and mate Christian Binder have improved in the starting phases and open duels and have shown this by winning against the Swedish Team Artemis lead by Terry Hutchinson. The US-American due to his performances in America´s Cup 07 and proclaimed yachtsman of the year didn´t stand a chance against Binder and his team from the start and came in 30 seconds later. “It was obvious that we have improved in the duel boat against boat. Now you can finally see the change black on white due to our victory”, says Binder who looks very satisfied. “We will still remain humble. We have a confirmation and know that there is still much to be done.”

Tomorrow afternoon will be used for the switch to the Fleet Race. The Austrians will change their canvas and work on some configurations. Rene Mangold will take the wheel, Christian Binder will make the tactic decisions in the 12 races. Because the parameters are different in the Fleet Race today´s warm up is important to all teams. Today there is little wind. Tomorrow according to the participants of the Al Maktoum Sailing Trophy there will be a good breeze of 5 Beaufort. Where the starting position is says trainer Pelinka, “Thanks to both victories from the previous year we have good memories and now the new “aha” experiences. We have already said that we will concentrate on the middle field and this decision remains.” It is important not get carried away and stay focused. The most important thing is the positive atmosphere and the preparation for the Traunsee and the home game end of April. The RC44 summit meeting before Dubai will be continued tomorrow and on Saturday it will be finalized.
