| Strike! The AEZ RC44 Team Austria beats the Slovenian Ceeref-Team at the season´s start off at the Persian Gulf. Today the RC44 Championship-Series 2010 started with the Al Maktoum Sailing Trophy before Dubai. In the next 72 hours the winners of the Match Race will be nominated and after that the determinations in the Fleet Race will be made. Already on the first day, the teams sail in pairs against each other, revealing facts: the America´s Cup protagonists´ scene is stronger than ever and the local repertory is turning out to be a feared stumbling block within the world´s best offshore pros. The AEZ RC 44 Team Austria prepositioned their goals clearly - Dubai is a test in case of emergency which means the home game on the Traunsee (29.04-04.05), whereby the tactic for the Match Race was oriented. “We will approach everything aggressively and want to maneuver our problems at the beginning to escape the choke-hold”, explains coach Alfred Pelinka, former Olympia trainer from Hagara/Steinacher as well as the Europe masters Vogl/Flatscher and for two years on Binder´s side. Pelinka´s troop, which was up against five rivals today, implemented their tactic almost perfectly, left a few duels open and won right at the start off. Binder and Co. have a further superstar on their hit list, the Slovenian Team Ceeref, where mate Rod Davis can access a top manned cockpit. Already in the previous year the Austrians won against Davis and Co. The New Zealander who is tactician in the Emirates Team New Zealand has caused a furor and is among one of the best in his craft. „We have managed a few starts neutrally to positively today and could have gotten more glory”, says Christian Binder, who is behind the wheel in the Match Race of the local repertory. “What is still missing is precision, but we shouldn´t be surprised. While the pros sail the whole year, our water training began only five days ago. We want to invest in our momentum from Dubai into the preparations for the Traunsee, starting 29. April and then give our best.” Tomorrow the Match Race at the Persian Gulf will end with a few duels, on Wednesday the warm up for the Fleet Races will take place. Current Score/Match Race: 1.
