| Up Against the best of the best The AEZ RC44 Team Austria is competing against the winners of the 33. America´s Cup at the season´s opening at the Persian Gulf. On 14.February, thanks to their advanced technology, the US-Team BMW Oracle Racing won 2:0 against Swiss Alinghi in a battle for the oldest sport trophy in the world before Valencia. While the 34th requirement is being tended to, the protagonists are changing from multi- to monohulls and are starting the season of the RC 44 Championship-Tour 2010 before Dubai. The native repertory lead by the mates Christian Binder and Rene Mangold are in this year´s yacht sports Champions-League. This privilege was made possible due to the successful early season and the commitment of loyal partners such as AEZ. “Of course we have a much lower budget, but the fact that Austria is in this league is sensational”, says Binder who has changed three positions for the team at the start off. Beside the Olympia´s winner and repatriate Thomas Czajka, Clemens Kruse and Carlo Kuret are making their debut. Kruse was last active with Hans Spitzauer in the Match Race World Cup. Kuret has made a name as Olympia-Fourth of the Athens-Games, as well as trimmer of the Italian +39 America´s Cup Team. The Croatian is responsible for the trim on board of the Austrians at the start of the Al Maktoum Sailing Trophy this coming Monday. As far as material is concerned Binder and Co. are accessing the prior year´s sail. The only alteration is the canvas imported from New Zealand. In addition to new locations such as Valencia or Kopenhagen the sailing program will be altered a bit in the RC 44 Championship-Tour. The holding of the DHL-Trophy long distance races is not obligatory for the hosts. The single events will be prolonged to one sailing day. If Russell Coutts who won the America´s Cup 1995 and 2000 for New Zealand, 2003 for Switzerland and now for America will turn the wheel in Dubai is still open. What is sure is that the current and most successful sailor in the world will honor the Traunsee once more. If Coutts has to pass for Dubai then the US sailors have a real ace up their sleeve with Adam Minoprio. The New Zealander is leading in the Match Race sailors of the world currently. Also the Swedish Team has upgraded itself with Terry Hutchinson who was tactician last with the AC-Syndikat Emirates Team New Zealand and was given a contract as a big player for Scandinavia. A total of ten teams are starting this season at the Persian Gulf. The AEZ RC 44 Team Austria remains considering all the well known names- no other offshore series is occupied-newcomer. “We want to continue where we left off last season, one success from stage to stage is what we are focused on” says trainer Alfred Pelinka and adds that the fleet race´s guidelines are easy to follow in the duel boat against boat. “The local event at the Traunsee is our goal of the season. There we want and will show our best and hopefully give the spectators a good spectacle.” Al Maktoum Sailing Trophy/Schedule: 22. -23. Februar Match Race 24.
