Gmunden stays in the race

Austria´s RC44 team is looking forward to a home game in 2010 and hopes for an improvement in their perfomance before Malcesine

Even though this year´s winners of the championship tour are still written in the stars, the calender for 2010 is sure. The kick-off will take place in Dubai as well as the finale end of November. Gmunden and the Traunsee were chosen for the first Europe stop. The RC44 grandees are guesting for the third time in a row in Salzkammergut. The sailing will take place from 01-05 May. The latest consents confirm the host´s outstaning work. Renowned seaports such as Kopenhagen, Marseille or Barcelona are still on the waiting list.
Back to the present and Malcesine: Austria´s nine, which joined the tour founded by superstar Russell Coutts in 2007 and could prove themselves against the best open sea yachtsmen in the world, are striving for a better performance. „ We want to improve at the Gardasee“ says mate Christian Binder, and adds, „ in spite of all dedication and positive training impressions no big steps but just baby steps are to be expected.“ Mainly the match race remains the local Asse´s striking point. For decades the leading sailing nations practice the duel boat against boat, for Austria´s open sea specialists comparatively virgin soil. „ We must approach this discipline step by step, doesn´t work from one day to the other, on top of that we are competing with the best of the best.“
Austria´s nine have been training since Friday on site, on Wednesday the match race will begin, until 12 July the winners of the fleet and long distance race will be determined.
