AEZ draws its conclusion

The 79th Geneva Motor Show – innovative solutions more popular than ever

The figures alone do not make particularly good reading: this year 9.3 percent less visitors came to the motor show with the nicest location in Europe.

“In spite of this, the motor show will go down, in a positive sense, as a special one,” Norbert Frohner, the General Manager of AEZ is certain: “This is because new solutions for the future were created, while urgently required drive concepts and ecologically useful ideas were also presented.” One person who has been contemplating the car of tomorrow for a long time and converting these “philosophical studies” into useful and beautiful vehicles, is Frank Rinderknecht. The Swiss, who is the manager of the prestigious tuner Rinspeed, already linked ecology to mobility when the issue was still taboo in the industry. AEZ is a partner of the ingenious inventor and developer for the third time now. The manufacturer of high-quality aluminium alloys is also systematically working on the alloys of tomorrow: “They have to be even lighter as that helps to save petrol. It goes without saying that in spite of the reduction in weight the resilience still has to be ensured up to and exceeding the load-capacity and high-speed limit," says Norbert Frohner. Precisely this balancing act was also in the specifications for the development of the wheel for the Rinspeed iChange. This is because this extraordinary vehicle is a lively sports car and sports van in one. The iChange is a vehicle which adapts to diverse mobility requirements. The double-spoke wheel from AEZ takes part in this metamorphosis, which the visitors to the motor show watched in wonder. The second vehicle on show in Geneva which the alloy manufacturer and tuner worked on also had metamorphosis in it: the E2 is a loveable Fiat 500 which combines driving enjoyment and environmental friendliness. In city traffic it offers 60HP whereas on the motorway it can reach 160. This clever energy management system can be adjusted by the push of a button, and the ideal wheel for it is the Tacana from AEZ.

At the stand of the Swiss company Erny Fahrzeugtechnik, an AEZ partner, visitors were able to admire the current wheel collection from the brands AEZ, DOTZ and DEZENT. An absolute highlight was the Tidore dark with its extravagant bi-colour look. This AEZ masterwork is the “road version” of the wheel developed for the sQuba, Rinspeed’s star of last year’s motor show. In addition the AEZ creations Lascar and Phoenix turned out to be particular eye-catchers, as both were presented as the perfect “footwear” for the Jaguar XF on display: the powerful 20-inch versions of the designer alloys looked extraordinarily good on the lively Brit. Visitors were amazed as even this year they didn’t “just” want to see sensible, technical innovations when they were strolling through the halls, but they also wanted to look at sublime and beautiful things. Together with Erny and Rinspeed, AEZ created a furore in both areas.
